Can I run prize draws, raffles, lotteries or games of chance?

Modified on Thu, 18 Sep at 8:42 AM

You can now use PTA Events to take payment for prize draws, raffles, 100 clubs and competitions/games of chance (including bingo) on your PTA Events website. However, you must first provide PTA Events with your small society lottery licence or proof of purchase within the last 12 months. You must then continue to run your raffle in the same traditional offline way because you have legal obligations to fulfil when running your raffle such as information that needs to be on tickets. A lottery licence is required for both an offline raffle and an online prize draw as Stripe need visibility of this as selling anything gambling related is in breach of their terms of service. Stripe want to ensure that the organisations we are working with are charitable organisations who have a licence.

To upload your small society lottery licence, browse to "Admin" > "Settings" and then click the "Payment" tab. Scroll to the bottom and click the "Upload Lottery Licence" button.

If you do not have a small lottery licence, please contact your local licensing authority (usually your local council) and complete an application form.  You can find your local council on GOV.UK (opens in new tab).

The registration fee is £40, and renewal is £20 each year thereafter.

Please note - It is up to your organisation to ensure that anything you sell on platform is legal within the jurisdiction your organisation is in.
